Having had 10 hours personal training with Stuart, I knew that the self-protection training would be delivered expertly, by an expert. One lesson in with Paul and he is clearly cut from the same cloth. Self-protection skills are becoming increasingly more valuable in today’s society. I would argue that they are a necessity for all.
Lessons
The lessons are well structured and balanced. The amount of new skill that is introduced and the number of repetitions for each skill works for me and is about as much as my two brain cells can handle. Also, being 54 years old, the patterns take a little longer to enter the grey matter and muscle memory. I wouldn’t want any extra new content in a session and believe that you can never have too many repetitions.
I like the professional, “tell them what you’re going to tell them, tell them and then recap and tell them again,” format.
The lack of ego and supportive nature of the coaches and experienced students creates an environment which is both enjoyable and conducive to learning.
I like the fact that you can measure your progress via the grading system, but are not obliged to do the grades. I will do the grades as long as I find them interesting, but moreover am able to pass them!
My Advice
My advice to others thinking of joining? The Self Defence and Krav Maga lessons are a fantastic opportunity to learn self-protection skills that really do work in the street, in a friendly environment, whilst getting fit.
